6 Quick Tips for Making the Perfect Cup of Coffee with Senseo 6 Quick Tips for Making the Perfect Cup of Coffee with Senseo

You're no doubt very excited about using your new Senseo Coffee Machine. It's the perfect way to brew coffee that is consistently delicious – one cup at a time. Though the Senseo is easy to use, there are a few tricks to ensuring the perfect cup of coffee. Here are six ways you can ensure you love every cup of Senseo you brew.

1. Use fresh water. Your Senseo's water container will hold a fairly large amount of water. For the best tasting cup of coffee, however, don't reuse leftover water from the day before. First thing in the morning, before making your first cup, empty and refill the water container.

Keep in mind that if your tap water doesn't taste great, it will affect the flavor of your coffee. For this reason, some people choose to use bottled or filtered water in their Senseo.

2. Don't reuse coffee pods. It may be tempting to try and reuse those pods to save money. But the coffee flavor is nearly non-existent when you reuse a pod.

3. Keep those pods fresh. Once a bag of pods is opened, the freshness of the coffee will deteriorate rapidly if they are not kept in an airtight container. Some other manufacturers package their pods in individual envelopes to help them stay fresh.

4. Be sure to put the coffee pod in correctly. The top of the pod is flat and the bottom is a bit rounded. In addition, most coffee pods that fit Senseo have the manufacturer's name on the top of the pod. It is essential that the pod be put in right side up.

One of the best things about a cup of Senseo coffee is the foam on the top of the coffee. If you fail to put the coffee pod in correctly, the foam is not created and the flavor of the coffee suffers.

In addition, be sure that the coffee pod goes in the pod holder without getting bunched up. The pod should be flat in the pod holder to prevent water from going around the edges of the pod instead of through it.

5. Remove old coffee pods. This tip is especially important if you don't use your Senseo everyday. When old, wet pods sit in the pod holder, they can get moldy or develop a mildew smell. Throwing your pods away after each use can help keep the coffee tasting fresher. Remember, however, that pods are hot right after use, so always remove them using the handle of the pod holder.

6. Keep the Senseo cleaner descaled. Periodically, you will see a warning on the display of your coffee maker reminding you to descale the unit. Regular descaling keeps your coffee maker working properly and keeps the coffee tasting great. If you ignore the warning for too long, the coffee maker may stop working, so be sure to take care of the descaling when required. Senseo sells a descaling product that works quite well. Many people also report success by descaling using a solution of vinegar and water, but Senseo does not recommend this method. The most reliable descalers are citric acid based.

With these simple tips, you should have no trouble making some of the best coffee you've ever tasted using your Senseo coffee maker and the many varieties of delicious coffee that are available.
