The Many Flavors of Coffee Pods The Many Flavors of Coffee Pods

Once you've made the decision to switch to a single serve pod coffee system like the Senseo, you may be wondering if you will continue to be able to have the variety in coffee flavors you've been accustomed to with traditional coffee makers.

Fortunately, the answer is a resounding "yes". As pod coffee makers have gained popularity, more and more flavors have been introduced to appeal to a wide variety of palates.

Senseo itself offers eleven different varieties of coffee pods for their coffee makers. Several other coffee vendors offer some of the same flavors, and some additional ones, as well. Some of the tastes you can expect to find in coffee pods include:

  • Decaffeinated – not really a variety, of course, but a requirement for many coffee drinkers. Most decaffeinated coffee choices in pods are made from a blend of medium roast beans
  • Medium Roast – these are usually a blend of beans, rather than coffee from a single type of bean. They are moderate in flavor, and appeal to a wide variety of palates
  • Dark Roast- Dark roasts are also usually a blend, but they are made from stronger and richer flavored beans
  • Sumatra – Sumatran coffee comes from Indonesia. This is a dark and rich coffee variety that has virtually no acidity. Even those people who typically cannot drink dark coffee due to stomach problems, can usually drink Sumatran because it is so smooth
  • Kenya- Kenyan coffee comes from Africa. It is extremely flavorful and medium bodied
  • Colombian – Colombian coffee from South America is a favorite in the US. It is a very flavorful coffee, and perfect for breakfast. Yet, it's not terribly strong
  • Breakfast Blend – Breakfast blends are usually a medium roast, so they're not bitter or overly strong. But, they often contain at least one variety of highly caffeinated coffee, so that they can get you up and going in the morning
  • Kona Blend – Kona coffee is grown in Hawaii. It is considered one of the best tasting coffees in the world. It is also one of the most expensive. Kona is medium to strong bodied, has very little acidity and is extremely flavorful
  • Jamaican- The most famous Jamaican coffee is Blue Mountain. This rich, dark coffee is delicious, and is highly caffeinated. It is also one of the more expensive coffee varieties you'll find
  • Espresso – Extra strong, extra concentrated coffee. Espresso may be drunk on its own, or used to make cappuccinos and lattes.

In addition to these varieties of traditional coffee, you'll also find a number of flavored coffees available for your Senseo. Some of the most popular include:

  • French Vanilla
  • Hazelnut
  • Crème Brulee
  • Chocolate

Pods that will fit the Senseo coffee maker are now made by a variety of coffee manufacturers, including:

  • Godiva
  • Wolfgang Puck
  • Melitta
  • Folgers

To experience the full range of flavors we've listed, you'll have to try multiple manufacturers. But, it's great to know that there are so many varieties and flavors of coffee available for your Pods Coffee Machine. And, with the popularity of single cup machines increasing everyday, you're sure to find even more delicious coffees available in the future.
