Nespresso CitiZ (D110) is one of the best-selling Nespresso single serve espresso machines. It looks great, with its retro style it will be an attractive addition to any kitchen. There is a great color range as well. Pouring a coffee with the Nespresso CitiZ is easy and quick, you never make a bad or bitter cup, and are never left with a big mess to clean up.
Looks and Style
The Nespresso Citiz is certainly one of the more attractive machines. The Citiz is currently available in 60’s white, a lovely cream colour, or limousine black. A red option is available in some locations.
Features
The CitiZ comes either with or without the milk heater. If you’re not sure if you need it, you can buy a free-standing milk heater later on, but the downside of this is that your machine will need more space, and also two power point outlets to run.
There is also a twin Citiz available, the CitiZ and Co. With two espresso towers you can pull two shots at the same time. If you have a busy household of coffee lovers, or are often entertaining guests, the the CitiZ and Co. is a great-looking option that can also save you time.
As one of the first models to feature an energy saving mode, the CitiZ is one of Nespresso’s environmentally friendly models. If you leave your machine on, after a while the buttons will start flashing, this is the signal that it’s gone into stand-by or energy saving mode. When your ready for your next espresso, simply press one of the buttons on the top of the machine and it will stir itself back into action. It takes about a minute to heat up again.
The CitiZ has an on and off button, as well as two buttons to control your pour. When making your coffee, you can choose to pour either an espresso, or a lungo. The system is fully automated. Coffee aficionados can change the auto settings to customize their espresso and lungo. You can reprogram the machine to control the amount of time the coffee brews for, changing the strength of your cup. It’s also easy to reset the machine if you make a mistake.
There is a small shelf that can be left up or down to accommodate shorter or taller glasses. If you alternate between espresso and lungo then this is a feature you are going to love, and one that was not seen in Nespresso’s earlier models.
The Citiz has a 19 bar espresso pump, and a 1 liter water reservoir. The capsules insert with a lever system which is easy to use. There is a collection bin for used capsules, it fits around 10 used pods.

The Coffee
Tha Citiz can make any kind of coffee; espresso, lungo, as well as cappuccino, (if you buy the model with milk). The Citiz heats up in no time, you’ll be ready to make your espresso within a minute of switching on the machine.
It takes around 30 seconds to brew an espresso, and 50 seconds for a lungo. The milk heater takes a bit longer to work, so it’s a good idea to start your milk heating before you pull your shot.
Care and Maintenance
The Citiz does not require a large amount of maintenance. When you start the day you should refill the reservoir with fresh water before you start making any coffee. You should then flush the machine by pouring a lungo shot without a capsule inserted, this will eliminate any leftover debris. Nespresso recommend descaling the Citiz around three times a year. Descaling is easy to do and only takes around 15 minutes, You can buy a kit from Nespresso which contains everything you need to do this.
Price
The CitiZ is slight more expensive than bottom-end models like the Essenza, but makes up for this with automatic functions. It sits around the mid range of the Nespresso pricings. A good machine if you are looking for something that looks good, makes great coffee, and doesn’t cost the earth.
